Volunteers

Elem is unique as a charity organization because our volunteers, both in America and Israel, actively participate in all aspects of our work, from fundraising, to hiring staff, to the day-to-day involvement in the lives and problems of the adolescents that we serve. Elem's professional and lay volunteers work together to form policy and define goals. Great success is achieved because of this hands-on involvement. Elem is proud that the funds raised for Elem in America go directly to services in Israel.

There are few paid workers in America. Overhead expenses are absorbed primarily by the volunteer leadership. Office functions are supplied by volunteers and include typists, computer specialists, and even envelope stuffers. Planning for Elem projects is executed and evaluated by our volunteer Professional Committees and Board of Directors in America and Israel.

As the leading voluntary non-profit organization in the area of youth in distress in Israel, Elem has over 1,200 volunteers involved in a variety of projects and fundraising activities.

Elem/America and Elem/Israel volunteers have missions back and forth between America and Israel annually, opening the way to new professional ideas and continuing interaction between the institutions and volunteers in both countries.
