Youth Hostels

At ELEM's initiative, the first community hostel for court adjudicated youth opened in Kiryat Gat in 1982. Working in close cooperation with Israel’s Welfare Department and the Youth Protection Authority, ELEM established five additional community hostels. Over the year, the innovative programs ELEM initiated in these hostels have become part of the entire network of Youth Protection Authority hostels.

The Ben Galim project provides a response for these youngsters by offering them a unique and useful program utilizing the magic of the sea, the love of sailing and the spirit of adventure to provide boys with a rehabilitative, therapeutic and educational program. The hostel is located in Herzelia and the maritime activities take place at the city’s marina.

At the Beit Elem hostel in Jerusalem (one of the first community hostels established by ELEM) a day treatment center called “Ann’s Place” has recently opened, whereby youth and their families, both Arab and Jewish receive counseling and support services.
